Testing is not always Black & White

Posted by Renée Elizabeth Mineart on 12/01/2021

Embracing the Gray Areas of Testing

We are pleased to have one of our blog writers Renée Mineart, returning with a new blog item ‘Testing is not always Black and White’. It’s a follow-up blog from last month’s piece Black Box Testing Techniques by Jane Kelly which we would recommend reading before proceeding.

The differences between Black Box and White Box testing are not always (…please forgive the pun!) as black and white as the title might suggest. That is to say, even though they are not the same, it’s not a case of one or the other.

Black Box Testing Techniques

Introduction to Black Box Testing

Today, we welcome back Jane Kelly with a new blog.

Welcome to the world of Black Box testing! It remains one of my firm favourites because it’s a method of software testing that looks at the functions of an application. It doesn’t delve into the murky and technical depths of the internal working and structure, nor does it dive into detailed workings within the design or code. So, let’s talk about black box testing techniques and how they can be applied to create test cases

But, That's Impossible!

Where Does That's Impossible Come From?

Today, we welcome back our popular guest writer, Renée Mineart.

Impossible is one of my favourite words. I like the word because it has a literal meaning, and a figurative meaning that we use on a regular basis. The thing is, people often think they are using the literal meaning when actually they are using the figurative meaning!

Defining UAT Team Roles and Responsibilities

Today, we welcome back our popular guest author, Renée Mineart.

There are many, many challenges in developing and delivering a successful application. That’s what makes it interesting, if you ask me. One of the greatest of these challenges, in my experience, is time management (apart from a planet wide pandemic of course!).

Mobile Testing: A Comprehensive Guide

Unleashing the Potential of Mobile Testing

Today, I’d like to blog about mobile testing. Like many of you out there, I am a frequent mobile user and I would feel considerably inconvenienced were I to be without it for even just a few hours!

The market is flooded with mobile hand-held devices and we rely so heavily on them for so many reasons: communication, diary bookings, notes, reminders, security and protection, emergencies, socialising, learning, entertainment, sleep, relaxation and so on.

Testing Room 101

Posted by Jane Kelly on 7/10/2020

What would we put in Room 101...

Today’s blog is about pet 'computer experience' hates, ’Better out than in!’ so they say. Let's refer to it as my ‘Testing Room 101’ target list.

The reality is, these are experienced by people across the board and not just software testers, of course! Perhaps the line of work of a software tester makes them more noticeable or perhaps they subconsciously look for them. There’s nothing like a good rant to get things off your chest when things are annoying, so here goes! How many of these are on your pet hate list?

User Acceptance Testing in a Virtual World

Best Practices for Virtual UAT

Today we welcome back our popular guest author, Renée Elizabeth Mineart.

If I were asked to encapsulate what makes humans unique in a single sentence, I’d probably say: “...our ability to achieve the impossible.” This trait is often best demonstrated when we are faced with adversity - a planet-wide pandemic, for example.

A Real-World Intro to SAFe Agile – Scaled Agile Framework SAFe

Posted by Paul Raybould on 12/08/2020

What is SAFe Agile Framework?

SAFe is a scaling lean and agile framework (or agile manifesto) which combines various pieces of different agile practices, principles, methodologies and core competencies such as Scrum, Kanban, Extreme Programming (XP), Lean Product Development, Lean Portfolio Management and DevOps.

Why use SAFe?

The Large Solution SAFe model of working is relevant to large organisations and numbers of agile teams with multiple development teams delivering highly complex solutions to complex systems.

Should everyone adopt SAFe?

Adopting SAFe in smaller team structures with few cross-team dependencies would negatively impact the agility of these teams and affect delivery & velocity.
