Welcome to the inner workings of nFocus' SDET Academy! I'm Rachel, the Marketing Lead here at nFocus, and I'm excited to give you an authentic glimpse into our innovative program designed to bridge the gap in Technical Testers.

Meet and Greet: Getting Acquainted with Trainees and Mentors

It's not all work and no play for cohort 6 (yes, we've already run 5 previous cohorts and trained 40 new SDETs through our Academy in just 2 years!). The previous evening, we were all gathered at a cozy Italian restaurant, enjoying good food and great company.

We always like to make sure we're sprinkling in enough downtime and social activities for our new team members to get a feel for what it's like working with nFocus. Laughter fills the air as our Academy attendees and senior team members get to know each other. But as the night turns into day, it's time to shift gears and get back to business.

We're at the Hilton Garden Inn, Birmingham, a nice central location for our graduates who come from all over the UK. Though we work mostly remotely, we like to hold the occasional in-person session to give everyone a chance to meet face-to-face. After tackling the necessary administrative tasks, our crew dives headfirst into what the next 12 weeks have in store. From mastering automation frameworks to advanced testing techniques, we've got a jam-packed schedule ahead. It's a challenge, but we're ready to roll up our sleeves and make it happen. Each new cohort has the expert tutelage of our Technical Director and nFocus Co-Founder Danny, as well as support from the wider nFocus team. 

Amidst the structured sessions that take place throughout the day, I take some time to connect with each member of our cohort in smaller groups. We're proud that with each cohort we select a wide range of candidates from a variety of backgrounds, and while their reasons for joining the Academy may vary, they all share a passion for growth and learning in the world of testing.

Aydan expressed how he valued the constant feedback and communication channels we've established throughout the process so far, from application to day one of the Academy. Fatima is eager to dive into real-world testing scenarios and get exposure with real clients. Archie appreciates the support and mentorship provided by our team and finally, Genuine is excited about the opportunity to soak up all this knowledge in just 12 short weeks.

As the day progresses, there's a palpable energy in the air, mixed with a healthy dose of anticipation. The team know they have our full support and are ready to tackle whatever challenges come their way.
